Demetrio J. Aguila III, MD, MA, FACS is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology, specializing in peripheral nerve surgery and the surgical management of acute and chronic pain, as well as general plastic, reconstructive, and microsurgery and general otolaryngology. As a world-renowned peripheral nerve surgeon, Dr. Aguila regularly sees patients from 50 states and 25 foreign countries. He is the only surgeon in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, and South Dakota to offer micro-invasive carpal tunnel surgery with real-time ultrasound guidance, allowing patients to return to work the same day, without restrictions. Dr. Aguila is a founding member of the International Surgical Society for Nerve-Induced Pain.
Dr. Aguila is also an active member of numerous other organizations, including the American Society for Peripheral Nerve, American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, International Headache Society, American Headache Society, American Society for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs, the Catholic Medical Association, and the Free Market Medical Association. Dr. Aguila currently serves as the Leader of the Nebraska Chapter of the Free Market Medical Association.
A former US Air Force combat flight surgeon, Dr. Aguila served 8 years in the reserves and 13 1/2 years on active duty, traveling to 46 states and 31 countries. Dr. Aguila graduated from the Boston University School of Medicine, completed his surgical internship at Wright State University, and completed his aerospace medicine training at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB, TX. He went on to complete his otolaryngology-head & neck surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, and his plastic & reconstructive surgery training at the combined Johns Hopkins University / University of Maryland Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program. Further, Dr. Aguila completed his fellowship in Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Dellon Institutes for Peripheral Nerve Surgery.
Dr. Aguila is also a fully-trained medical acupuncturist, having completed the Medical Acupuncture for Physicians Course at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the Helms Medical Institute under Drs. Joseph Helms and Richard Niemtzow.
Dr. Aguila is the CEO and President of Healing Hands of Nebraska, and the founder of Healing Hands of America, the 501(c)3 non-profit that runs the revolutionary M25 Program (https://m25program.com) that offers patients innovative options for specialty care while avoiding crushing medical debt, recently featured in CNN’s Champions for Change. Dr. Aguila received his Masters of Theology from the Augustine Institute. He enjoys playing ice hockey, hunting, and teaching martial arts, and lives with his family in the Omaha, Nebraska metro area.
